UV Curing and The Benefits of Pulsed Light

UV Curing with the new CoolCureXL-DVD system Xenon offers a state-of-the-art uv curing for DVDs - and a superior alternative to mercury lamps. A spiral-shaped UV curing lamp that matches the shape of the DVD is at the heart of the system. And its pulsed characteristics mean that CoolCureXL-DVD functions with virtually no heat. By eliminating the use of mercury and microwaves, XENON Corporation's CoolCureXL-DVD becomes the ultimate DVD system. XENON Corporation continues to uphold its reputation for bringing new technology to light. The technology of the future is here today.

Pulsed light benefits are easy to understand through the analogy of the hammer and nail. When you drive a nail into a wall with a hammer, is it more effective to strike the nail with a series of short, even hits or is it better to apply the hammer to the nail head and to press steadily!

Innovations for the semiconductor industry offer other examples of pulsed  light creativity and effectiveness. The pulsed light technology developed by Xenon Corporation overcame the photoresist  cure limitation for ion implantation. Proven success with the pre ion implantation hard bake process as well as with surface cleaning and treatment has secured a valued niche in the semiconductor industry for Xenon Corporation's pulsed light technology

In a wide range of applications, pulsed light exceeds industry requirements and offers benefits that are distinctive:

  • Low, low, low heat
  • Instant on/off (start-stop-start)
  • Deep penetration with ease
  • Nitrogen Blanket not required
  • Ultra long lamp life
  • Broad spectrum, UV/Visible
  • Spiral, ring and split lamps
  • Mercury free safety
  • Process flexibility for simplicity
  • Energy efficient for cost savings

What Our Customer Say About Pulsed Light:

“Pulsed light cured the coating on my product without heating it.”

“Instant on/off feature eliminates unnecessary UV exposure and damage to my product”

“The Xenon, high intensity, pulsed lamps are an excellent alternative to hazardous
mercury lamps and microwave systems.”

The broad band capabilities of the Xenon lamp system provides greater flexibility with our formulations.”

“The flexibility of Xenon systems makes it process friendly and simplified our equipment development.”

"My lamp life is higher and my energy consumption is lower because I can instantly shut the lamp off when not needed and instantly restart when ready."

Xenon Corporation enjoys a reputation for superior customer service and sophisticated products that are rugged and reliable. Hundreds of end-users and OEMs worldwide count on Xenon Corporation products for longer life, greater reliability and less down time.

A new, highly flexible modular curing system which is designed for a wide rangeRC-800 Series-CoolCureXL of curing applications including DVD, medical device, semiconductor wafer, hard disc drive and optics fabrication, is being introduced by Xenon Corporation of Wilmington, MA.

The Xenon CoolCureXL RC-800 Series Curing System features high intensity pulsed UV light lamps (mercury-free) with single or dual lamp operation, a high speed controller that provides instant on/off and a high voltage power supply. Designed for easy integration into an in-line manufacturing process, this highly flexible, robust modular system permits top-down and bottom up curing configurations to provide higher throughput with low substrate temperature.

Xenon Corporations model RC-801, a new UV curing system for Blu-ray Disc™ manufacturing, employs pulsed UV light to penetrate the transparent 100 micron top cover layer and provide a complete cure. Continuous UV mercury-vapor lamps are not able to do the job. In addition to edge cure problems, mercury UV lamps require excessive power to penetrate the thick UV curable resin coating, resulting in unacceptable cure time, as well as excessive substrate heat. To solve these problems, Model RC-801 pulsed UV curing systems provides a number of advantages:

Deep penetration for even curing of substrates: Pulsed UV light provides high peak power pulses, with excellent penetration. The high peak power UV pulses penetrate thick and/or low transmissibility coatings and substrRC-801 Curing System for Blu-ray Discates much more effectively than continuous mercury UV. Pulses can deliver the energy necessary to cure an adhesive or coating with short, microsecond pulses. This essentially eliminates the possibility of substrate and coating changes from exposure to unwanted energy.
